Visualise Your Success, Lessons from the British Open

Did you know that even the world’s best golfers face challenging shots?

It’s how they handle them that makes all the difference.

This weekend saw the 152nd British Open Golf Championship played out at Troon in Scotland.

After a tough first round on Thursday, five-time major winner Brooks Koepka was interviewed after shooting an impressive 1 under par.

He was asked how he prepared for that inevitable moment where a shot went astray, putting him in difficulty and in danger of destroying his tournament.

Brooks agreed that it was inevitable in the open conditions, but he was ready for it when it happened.

In the studio, the Sky Sports panel revealed that all the top players prepare for those moments by using ‘visualisation’ techniques.

They visualise the moment and practice their reaction.

That’s what keeps them cool, calm and collected in those difficult moments.

That’s what the world’s top golf players do and that’s the difference between being at the top of world golf and not.

And it’s the same in your business.

You might not be competing to win a major open golf championship, but the thing that separates the wheat from the chaff in business is exactly the same: perfect preparation.

Always be prepared.

In the same way top golfers visualise their perfect shots, you can visualise your business successes.

Imagine handling customer complaints with ease, or perfectly executing a new product launch.

This week alone, my business threw me four difficult curve balls.

But by staying calm and focused, I managed to turn challenges into opportunities.
