Last week, I hosted the very first Impact Business Builder Days, and one thing stood out above everything else.
Clarity.
Not flashy ideas. Not complicated plans. Just clarity.
One business owner came into the room with something many retailers have - a good business, a decent team, and solid foundations. But like a sat nav with no destination entered, there was movement… just not enough direction.
So we got to work on their TERMS.
What do they actually want from the business?
Not what sounds impressive, and not what everyone else says success should look like. Their version of success.
And once that became clear, everything else started to line up.
The priorities sharpened. The team structure made more sense. The next step became obvious: strengthen the relationship with their manager and build them into a proper right-hand person.
That means weekly meetings away from the shop floor - not just talking about what happened this week, but where the business is going next and how they’ll get there together.
That kind of involvement changes people.
When someone feels trusted, included, and part of the bigger picture, they stand taller. They take more ownership. They stop being “staff” and start acting like leaders.
From there, we built a marketing plan.
Not for wild growth. Just sensible growth. The kind that’s already there, hiding in plain sight, waiting to be picked up.
And here’s what fascinated me.
Once they got clear on the business, they got clear on life too.
Within days, they made a big personal decision - one that moves them closer to the life they want the business to support.
That’s the power of clarity.
It doesn’t just change your business plan.
It changes your decisions.
So, here’s the question:
Are you clear?
Do you know what you want your business to give you? Do you know what success actually looks like for you? And do you know what needs to happen next to get there?
Because without clarity, it’s easy to stay busy.
And busy can look a lot like progress… until you realise you’ve been running on the spot.
The next Impact Business Builder Day is May 7th - and it’s sold out.
The next dates will be in Autumn 2026, with dates to be released soon.
If you want first refusal when they’re released, drop me an email saying 'AUTUMN' to mark@impactretailtraining.com - and I’ll add you to the pre-registration list.
Have a great week.
