Stepping Out

The Thing You’re Avoiding Is Probably the One That’ll Grow Your Business

March 22, 20262 min read

I was chatting with one of my Impact Retail Success Club members this week.

She’d decided to do something she’d been putting off for years.

Properly putting it off… the kind of thing that sits on your list, gets nudged to next week, then next month… then quietly avoided altogether.

Anyway, this week she finally did it.

And do you know what?

She was brilliant.

More importantly, it was nowhere near as bad as she’d built it up to be in her head.

Which got me thinking.

Because this is almost always the way, isn’t it?

The thing we avoid…

The thing we overthink…

The thing that makes us feel a bit sick before we start…

99.9% of the time, it’s fine.

But here’s the bit that matters.

It’s not about what she did.

It’s what it represents.

Progress.

Because in business, the biggest needle movers rarely come from doing more of what’s comfortable.

They come from those moments where you step just outside the line.

Where it feels awkward.

A bit uncomfortable.

Maybe even a bit painful.

That’s usually the sign you’re doing something that actually moves things forward.

The retailers growing the fastest?

They’re not the ones getting everything perfect.

They’re the ones regularly putting themselves in that uncomfortable spot, and doing it anyway.

Not randomly.

But as part of how they run their business.

That’s the difference.

Because when you’ve got a bit of structure behind you…

When you know why you’re doing something…

When it’s part of a bigger way of working…

Those uncomfortable actions stop feeling like one-offs…

…and start becoming habits.

That’s exactly what happened here.

One action.

One step.

But part of something bigger.

It’s actually one of ‘The 7 Habits’ I teach inside my Entrepreneur’s Retail Growth System - the ones that, over time, build a better, stronger, more profitable shop.

I’m going to be breaking all of that down in a live session:

The Entrepreneur’s Retail Growth System.

Tuesday 7th April at 7pm.

If you’ve been reading this thinking, “I know there are things I’ve been putting off…” - this will help you understand how to actually tackle them, consistently, without it feeling like a constant battle.

You can grab a spot here.

This week, have a think, what’s the big thing you’ve been putting off?

Perhaps it’s time to just do it.

Have a great week.

Mark
