Success is Predictable

Why the Best Retail Results Are Decided Long Before the Busy Period

January 25, 20262 min read

This week, Burns Night was strong again for my business.

Not frantic.

Not scrappy.

Just controlled, confident trading - the kind that feels planned rather than hoped for.

Sales doubled – probably helped by our appearance on BBC1’s Haggis Hunters program that aired in September.

Appearing on that program may have been a lucky break.

However, it’s far from the first time - I keep getting lucky breaks.

Over the years, moments like this keep stacking up.

Busy periods landing well.

Opportunities appearing at the right time.

Results that, from the outside, might look like luck.

They’re not.

They come from thinking things through before you need to.

From being clear on where you’re heading.

From choosing ideas, tactics and strategies that quietly line you up for success - then executing them properly.

That’s how you end up in the right place when the moment arrives.

Here’s the part most people miss: that level of clarity is hard to reach on your own.

Some of the biggest leaps I’ve made in business came from sitting in the right rooms - mastermind groups with other serious business owners.

People who weren’t there for motivation or comfort, but for better thinking.

Fewer distractions.

Sharper decisions.

Higher standards.

Those rooms changed how I plan, how I spot opportunity, and how I act on it.

And that’s exactly why I’m launching a high-end mastermind for ambitious retailers who want to grow properly - not just stay busy.

It’s not for dabblers.

It’s for owners who want clearer strategy, stronger execution, and the unfair advantage that comes from being surrounded by people who think at the same level.

If you’ve read this nodding along - recognising the pattern - then you’re probably the kind of person, this is for.

If you want a seat, why not get in touch – we can have a chat.

Have a great week.

Mark
