Comfort vs Challenge: Why Thinking Small Is Holding Your Business Back

June 08, 20251 min read

This week, I got a reminder I didn’t ask for, but definitely needed.

Midweek, I realised I’d missed a weeks worth of my usual 90-minute sessions.

The sessions where I work on the important stuff in my business.

Working on the things that will take my business to where I want it to be.

I’d slipped into the familiar, the comfortable.

I  was still working… but not on the work that really moves things forward.

It brought back something my mentor once told me:
“The worst thing you can do as a small business owner is to think like a small business owner.”

Too many business owners make small decisions.

They stay where it feels safe.

They avoid the big, bold stuff that actually drives growth.

They default into the day-to-day.

They’re working in the business, not on it.

It’s like a farmer clinging to a scythe, when what they really need is a combine harvester.

So here’s your challenge:

Are you doing your 90 minutes a day?

Are you feeling challenged, or are you just feeling comfortable?

Are you pushing into new ground, or just plodding along in the same field?

Is your behaviour congruent with where you want to be?

Growth doesn’t come from comfort.

It comes from choosing the work that stretches you.

That’s what builds £1m+ businesses.

Perhaps it’s time for you to stop swinging scythes.

Have a great week,

Mark
