Retail Tip #43: Find Your Next 1%
The danger when you suddenly become switched on to how much more you could be doing is that you see everything at once.
Better displays. Better marketing. Better team training. Better systems. Better customer service.
And suddenly you've created yourself another enormous to-do list.
So, I’d make this week's tip the opposite:
Don't try to up your whole game. Find your next 1%.
Pick one small thing that would make the business better this week.
Not someday.
This week.
It could be:
introducing a five-minute team huddle each morning
getting every member of the team to taste one product
finally starting that weekly customer email
changing the question your team ask at the till
putting one product on to sample
improving one display that's underperforming
Then do it.
Because once you start looking at great retailers, attending training or simply giving yourself more time to think about the business, it's very easy to become overwhelmed by everything you could be doing.
Don't confuse seeing more opportunities with needing to tackle them all.
Just ask:
“What's the next 1%?”
Do that.
Then find the next one.
Food for thought this week.
Have a great day,
Mark
