Get out the Gap

The Week That Didn't Deliver – and the Lessons It Taught Me

Lessons from a Week That Promised Big… and Didn’t Deliver

This week started with high hopes.

On Sunday evening, it looked like several big things were lining up.

Excitement was in the air.

I was ready.

So, I did what I always do when opportunity knocks: I grafted.

The crack of dawn starts, working flat-out until dusk.

I was all in.

But as the week progressed, one by one, those exciting things began to unravel.

Delays.

Changes.

Radio silence.

The week that promised so much… failed to deliver.

And you know what? That stung.

Despite all the effort, all the energy, it just didn’t land the way I’d hoped.

But here’s the thing: sometimes, despite your best efforts, things don’t go your way.

And that’s okay.

Some things are simply out of your control.

You’ve got to take a deep breath, dust yourself off, and begin again.

You also have to make sure you don’t fall into ‘the gap’.

That mental space where you measure your week against the ideal outcome rather than how far you’ve actually come.

When I sat back and looked properly, the week wasn’t a failure at all.

In fact, there were wins worth celebrating:

I was a guest on BBC Radio Newcastle’s breakfast show, doing a live haggis tasting.

Great fun.

Construction started on our new office and boardroom, a huge step forward for the business.

And I submitted a tender for a new order, a potential opportunity that could open up exciting doors.

So, if you’ve had a week that didn’t quite go to plan, take this as your reminder:

You’re allowed to feel disappointed.

Take a breath.

Look again, you might just realise how much you did achieve.

Then begin again.

Keep going.

The big wins are still coming.

Have a great week.

Mark
